Sarah walks in the kitchen. Margaret, sat with David, is holding a long black vibrator to her neck.
Sarah is shocked into stillness, eyes wide.
Speaking to David:
Marg: See, it feels really good. You should use it. Will help with your headache too.
Sarah glances at David, who shifts his embarrassed, shocked eyes to Sarah – they scream, "Don’t ask!"
Sarah: Hey, mum.
Marg: Oh, hey honey.
Sarah: New toy?
Margaret turns slightly to speak towards Sarah, still keeping the vibrator to her neck.
Marg: Yeah. Janet had a spare one so gave it to me. Said it would help with my headaches if David didn’t help me relieve them anymore. Not that he ever did.
The words linger in the air as Sarah holds back a laugh. Margaret says these things with such sincerity she doesn't know what she is saying like everyone else in the room does.
Marg: You should try – maybe it will help your shoulder.
Sarah: I have one, thank you. It doesn’t help my shoulder but it does take my mind off it temporarily.
Marg: Ah good – can you show me how to use it then?
David turns to Sarah now, very embarrassed.
Sarah: Eh I can’t, I need to pop out but it’s best if you get it wet first.
Marg: Ooo I didn’t know that. Thank you.
Margaret walks over to the sink as Sarah winks at David and leaves.
